Learn why more and more universities are looking to PebblePad to improve learning, equity and engagement.
PebblePad helps universities revolutionize the learning experience by offering unparalleled tools for managing complex learning and assessment and scaffolded development across the entire learning journey. That is why PebblePad's Learning Journey Platform is increasingly being viewed as a core component of digital learning ecosystems in North American universities. Bridging the experiential learning and assessment gaps that other platforms cannot bridge, PebblePad augments the LMS to provide features and functions that engage all learners across any learning context, at any scale, on and off campus.
Learning can be complex and is rarely a progression along a straight trajectory from A to B, making the ability to guide learners through the learning journey important for the prospect of success. PebblePad supports a variety of pedagogical approaches for scaffolding the learning experience. Portland State University uses PebblePad to support their interdisciplinary University Studies program. Using portfolios and combining the strengths of writing-intensive and learning community high-impact practices helps students reflect on a community-based experience. The resulting portfolios can be shared with various audiences, who may be mentors, advisors or potential employers.
The PebblePad Learning Journey Platform helps our students reflect on what they are learning by documenting curricular, co-curricular and community learning and the relationship between.

PebblePad’s learner-centred structure provides privacy and fosters student engagement and autonomy by supporting learning initiatives that engage learners as partners in the curriculum and in their assessment, allowing them to take ownership and control of their own learning. At Portland State University, the Campus Equity Walkthrough Evaluation (CEWE) is an inter-disciplinary year-long activity via a PebblePad Workbook. Focusing on “equity mindfulness” (awareness, interpretation, and action), it has increased critical reflection around equity, and fostered transformational learning experiences.
By defining the “e” in ePortfolio as equity, the suite of tools within PebblePad affords the opportunity to teach students how to use an equity lens practice to support a student-centered understanding of equity, race, and social justice on campus.
Our Learning Journey Platform Paper offers twelve examples of diverse practice and also describes the anatomy and purpose of the award-winning PebblePad.
Using PebblePad’s unique tools to structure and guide allows universities to support students in navigating and making sense of the curricular, co- and extra-curricular activities they will undertake. At the University of Waterloo, PebblePad workbooks facilitate an 'assessment as learning' model that streamlines the purpose, timelines and mechanisms of feedback. The act of giving, receiving, processing and acting upon feedback is now visible to instructors, students and the learning community. In turn, the visibility of engagement is enhanced.
PebblePad is designed to be used by learners wherever and whenever they are learning and offers various features to help learners plan, record, reflect on, and evidence their learning. Faculty can guide, scaffold, encourage students to share with peers for feedback, and provide reflection templates that support deeper and more meaningful learning experiences.
