Harper Adams University is a small specialist University located in Shropshire, England. The university's discipline base includes agri-food, agriculture, animal sciences, engineering, land management, entomology, zoology and business. The curriculum has a significant focus on applied elements and all undergraduate provision contains a compulsory placement year. The university undertook a curriculum review with two key areas of focus being authentic assessment and opportunities for formative assessment feedback. The university's eLearning team facilitated discussion about how an eportfolio, specifically PebblePad, might facilitate these goals. To ensure planning was possible at an institutional level, the use of eportfolio was written into the formal curriculum documentation. Following the roll-out, through community of practice sessions, user group stories emerged that have begun to identify the factors involved in developing assessment choices. The case study looks at some of these factors, how they manifest, and implications for technology adoption.
